Orange and Star Anise Hot Chocolate

As we say farewell to summer and get up close and personal with autumn we can all grab moments where we can stay outside for as long as possible before those chilly nights are here to stay.  We can still have late afternoon’s down at the beach hut and sneak in the odd sea swim and a hot chocolate is the perfect way to end the day.  This can quite happily work after a long woody walk or back at home after a long tiring school day.

Orange and Star Anise Hot Chocolate

(Serves 4)

1000ml milk

2 strips of orange peel

2 star anise

250g dark or bitter sweet chocolate, chopped

Place the milk, orange peel and star anise in a pan and bring to just below boiling.  Turn out the heat and allow to infuse for 10 minutes.

Remove the flavourings from the milk and return the pan to the heat with the chopped chocolate.  Bring to a a slow simmer, stirring from time to time to melt the chocolate.

Best served after a cold sea swim.
